Sahaja Yoga - The Ultimate Spiritual Experience

Sahaja Yoga Meditation was developed by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. It involves the awakening of a subtle spiritual energy known as the Kundalini which lies dormant in the sacrum bone at the base of the spine in three-and-a-half coils. The gentle awakening of this Kundalini energy and the inner journey of self discovery is known as Enlightenment (Self-realisation).

Sahaja means 'spontaneous' or 'born with you' and Yoga translates to 'union' (with the Divine or all-pervading power). Sahaja Yoga Meditation then translates to 'the method of divine union through yoga which everyone is born with'. Sahaja Yoga Meditation is for anyone who desires to find his or her true self, which is full of joy, peace and love. It is not just a book or a set of exercises but a living science that will open up to you gradually as your meditation becomes deeper and your experience stronger and more fulfilling.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation classes are held in over 100 countries around the world and are always provided free of charge. Right from the early days, Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi made it clear that this knowledge and the process of union effected by our Self-realisation is the birthright of every human being and therefore cannot be charged for.

Sahaja Meditation is now an official partner of UNESCO Centre for Peace.

Is Sahaja Yoga Shri Mataji's own philosophy?

Shri Mataji
"It’s an ancient thing, it’s described in all the scriptures. It’s not today’s. Sahaja Yoga is not today’s thing. Only the difference between the old Sahaja Yoga and this Sahaja Yoga is this that I’ve worked out a method in which en masse Realization can be. First thing. Secondly, without cleansing you, without making you work it out I thought of raising the Kundalini somehow. Once the Kundalini breaks through you get a light and in that light you start seeing yourself then you correct yourself, I don’t have to tell you.

Like supposing now you are holding on to a snake, all right? And it’s all darkness if I tell you it’s a snake you may say no it’s not a snake, it’s not a snake at all, it’s a rope. What’s the use of arguing? The more I argue the more you’ll hold on to it till it bites you, so the best thing is to put little light there so you see, so this is the difference only we can say that somehow or other now the Kundalini just rises and gives you a power by which you become your own guru, your own master and you correct yourself.

Overnight I’ve seen people have given up drugs, overnight, thousands, over night people have given up alcoholism, overnight people have been cured, overnight, so it’s something tremendous and this tremendous power must be harnessed, must be used which is there lying within you. No amount of answering questions it is going to do, it has to work out. It has nothing to do with the answering of questions or my lectures, it’s something which has to work out."

How does Sahaja Yoga compare to other yogas?

The key difference is Sahaja Yoga starts with Self Realisation experience whereby the Kundalini is awakened. This is the very first step necessary for attaining balance of the system effortlessly as the Kundalini nurtures and cleanses the system from the inside.

Many other yoga techniques focus on physical exercise, breathing and other practices to help clean the subtle system without the knowledge of what needs to be cleansed. The Kundalini awakening on the other hand, gives you the awareness of your subtle system which helps you understand what needs to be cleansed.
